***** bang! all just gone... *****
The rain against the windows began to form a catchy melody. Dublin was blurred
by the races that were fought between the drops of water, but even so, it still
seemed like the most beautiful city in the world. Although this time, his gaze
was not attentive to the rain, but to the sleeping face of the woman who lay at
his side, plunged into the deepest of dreams. She was tangled in the sheets,
almost on purpose, as if she were waiting to be painted. It seemed like a true
work of art without intending it. Her red hair stretched across the pillow like
an imposing cascade of fire, and he could not resist and stick his fingers in
it for much longer. And there he was, that stupid smile that escapes from his
lips to leave him defenseless, she used to have that effect on him. But the
unpleasant vibration of his cell phone on the nightstand caused him to break
his trance, and with heaviness, he picked it up before laying on his side of
the bed.
- John Boy, is Sophie with you?
- Yes, but she's still asleep.
- I called her about fifty times and she did not take it, that's why I called
you.
- Nige, what's wrong?
- Something horrible ... Today Robbie was out of prison but ... John you have
to tell Sophie immediately.
- I can not if you do not tell me once.
- He was shot. Nobody has seen anything but ... He's dead, John Boy. They have
killed Robbie.
And then, silence. A bitter silence that left him breathless for a few
devastating seconds. The line was still on, two breaths; one more altered than
another. John Boy cocked his face to the younger one, swallowing hard before
snorting, running a hand through his hair and face.
- I will call you later.
Seconds later, as if it had been prepared, Sophie began to wake up. That man
had not seen a more perfect picture than that, the redhead purred a couple of
times as she stretched, finally opening her eyes and focusing on him. But what
was found, was not usual. John Boy had adopted a taciturn face, much easier to
read than other times, and automatically worried.
- What happen? - She spoke first, standing on the bed and tilting the body
towards him. -
- Sophie ... Nigel called, something happened. - Seeing that the redhead was
still waiting for an answer, he did not linger and continued. - Robbie has been
released from prison a few hours ago, but ...
- John Boy, tell me what's going on.
- He was shot. - He released without thinking, knowing that he should say
something more. - I'm sorry, Sophie. Really, I'm very sorry.
And now that? The mind of the female was totally blank, she could not react,
she did not even seem to be able to cry. She could only think of her brother.
After that long-awaited freedom, everything had collapsed again. Sophie
untangled herself from the sheets, standing up and walking away from the room.
She felt her eyes begin to turn glassy, having decided at last to let all the
pain escape through tears. She searched her cell phone for the entire room,
finding it on the table in front of the sofa, on the screen there were dozens
of phone calls from Nigel. The redhead turned around, intending to go and get
dressed to leave immediately to find out more about what happened, but John Boy
did not leave her. He took her arm so she would not move away, approaching her
to try to calm her down.
- Sophie, Sophie please listen to me. You have to relax, you can not act
without thinking things first.
She began to resist, trying to get rid of his grip. Tears clouded her vision,
she felt everything was spinning abruptly and it cost her something as simple
as taking a breath and breathing.
- John Boy let me go! They've killed my brother, damn it.
Between sobs, Sophie ended up giving up little by little to her attempts to get
away from him, ending by giving in completely and hiding her face in the older
man's neck while he was hugging her. The man tried to make her feel safe,
whispering in her ear and kissing her hair tenderly several times. He was
determined not to let her go, to make her understand that he would be with her
no matter what happened, that he would never let her fall.
And John Boy was sure that after that, everything would stop being like before.

Chapter Notes
A small chapter to introduce the beginning of the story before
     starting strong with it.
Soon will come the first friction between John Boy and Sophie;))
See the end of the chapter for more notes
His brother was different and she could see it from leagues. Something was not
going as usual, and when something happened to Darren, the sisters knew it
before anyone else. Therefore, when everything was clean and safe after having
eaten at Mary's house, the older sister of the four Gray, did not let Darren
get up without first getting some explanation for his strange behavior of the
last days.
Darren Gray had not been very legal, but he had never been a bad boy. He had
taken care of his brothers with determination and effort since they were alone,
without any help. And that had brought him problems with the police.
She had spent a year away from Ireland, working in London to finish paying for
the first year of university, which was to start in a relatively short time.
She could see in the eyes of her sister that she already knew the answer to all
those doubts that had been created around the young man, so she demanded
answers before anyone else.
- You've gone back to work for John Boy.
Few words that caused the desired effect, for Darren lowered his face to his
feet, giving an answer that did not need words to confirm. That name was
totally unknown to her, she had never heard of that man, but because of the
mysterious touch they were giving to the matter, it did not seem to be legal.
Mary let out a loud snort, looking at her little brother as she ran both hands
through her hair, a shade similar to the sun's rays when they burst at dawn.
- Darren this is not necessary, I know you think so but it's not like that.
We're fine, or at least we try, but you do not need to get involved in those
issues again.
Mary raised her voice again, before the confused look of the youngest of the
Gray, who still did not understand anything, unlike her three brothers.
- I have to do it. You know that John Boy was the one who helped us through all
the problems we've had. I owe it to him, and as long as I can still have money
to help you and all of you, I will continue to do so. - He had never seen his
brother so determined on something, and for a moment he missed the fact that he
still did not understand anything. -
- Sophie ... - Her sister took her hands moments before her gaze ran to seek
the opposite. The redhead raised her face, finally seeing a clear indication
that everything was going to make sense. - John Boy was the one who helped us
when ... When I had the girls, when Robbie was out of work, he ... With his
money we kept you in London ... He has been our sustenance for years.
Everything had fit together, now everything fit in a sensible way. When his
brother told him that he had found real work that time, she thought it would be
a normal job, not with one foot off the legal line. Those bank deposits on the
table in the room that had so often called attention ... Now everything had a
logical sense.
But this man ... tried to put on his face but he could not, and she would swear
that she had never seen him. He had remained in the shadows for years, only
paying for a job well done.
After that strange talk in which Sophie had ended up discovering the double
life of her family in which she was now involved again, she tried to focus only
on her studies.
In two weeks I would begin to study law but the emotion that once resided
inside him had waned considerably, until it was almost imperceptible. She
trusted his brothers, and if they knew what they were doing, she was not going
to get involved in those matters.
But Sophie would not have imagined how she would end up getting involved in all
that.
